MOTHERS & DAUGHTERS -- Your first big relationship
MOTHERS & DAUGHTERS Yours mother carried you inside her
for nine months; you carry her inside you forever. Fiery, frosty,
friendly, or frazzled -- whatever the temperature of the mother-daughter
relationship is, it has much to teach us. Find a quiet place, and see
what more you can learn.
1. Who was/is
your mother to you? Nurturer, Nag, Confidante, Cheerleader, Pal, Role
model, etc.?
2. Who are you to your mother? What role do you play in her
life?
3. What does "good mothering" mean to you? In what
ways do you express your mothering urges?
4. Make a list of all the "mothers" in your life, from
childhood on. What have you gained from each?
5. What didn't you get from your mother? How can you make it up
to yourself?
6. How can you bring your relationship into the present, as two adult
women, as equals? Do you need to let go of past disappointments?
Can you find a way to communicate without pushing each other's buttons?
"There is a point when it all comes together, when a woman feels
comfortable with herself and confident in her abilities. The
uncertainty and hesitation are gone; she is in her element, and it
shows ... "

just the same ..." Quote by: Pearl S. Budk

children."
Quote by: Elaine Heffner, Psychotherapist and author
"How simple a thing it seems to me that to know ourselves as we are, we
must know our mothers' names." Quote by: Alice Walker
